A cinerary urn, now in the collection of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne, was presented to the Society by A M de Cardonnell Lawson on the 1st. July 1829. It was found in a small cist in a hillock close by Stromness and contained a handful of calcined bones. When found it was wrapped in a hide supposed to be that of a deer. It is 7 1/2"high and 6 1/2" in diameter at the lip by about 5" at the base and is faintly tooled in an irregular all-over scale pattern.
