Archaeology Notes

HY20NE 20 2503 0776.

Three large cist-like constructions, one of which contained unburnt human remains, were found on the golf course in 1929.(Information from Orcadian 10 and 17 October 1929.)

RCAHMS 1946.

In 1929 while constructing the 13th green of the golf course at HY 2503 0776 Mr. Craigie found a long cist in which there were human remains. When the bones were removed the cist was filled in and left in situ. (Information from Mr T S Craigie, Kilmallie, Ness Road, Stromness) The present whereabouts of the bones could not be ascertained.

Surveyed at 1/2500.
