Archaeology Notes

NN86SW 31.01 8356 6035

The remains of this township comprise the footings of six buildings (one of them a substantial range with four compartments), a kiln-barn, two small enclosures and traces of lazy-bed cultivation. Standing at the centre of the township, and overlying one building, there is a substantial limekiln, built into the hillside; it measures 4m in diameter within a wall 2.1m in thickness and up to 2.9m in height on the SW. The limekiln is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheet xxx), which also depicts the E end of the four-compartment building (by then roofless) and one of the enclosures.
