OS 6" map, (1960)

A group of Pictish dwellings in ruins, and appearing as holes dug in the ground.

Name Book 1873.

At the base of Silver Rock, in a hollow near a number of small mounds, is a depression, some 4' deep, measuring 25' E-W by 18', the sides of which appear to be lined with stones.

RCAHMS 1911, visited 1909.

The depression described by the RCAHMS (1911) is a sub-rectangular platform, levelled into the bottom of a wet, E- sloping gully at NH 7976 9962. It is probably the remains of an enclosure associated with late cultivation in the area, evidence by the footings of one or two small rectangular structures and recent field walls.

The term "Pictish dwellings" appears to apply to a knoll at NH 7974 9945, which is scored by a number of contiguous sub-rectangular hollows, c. 3.0m x 2.0m, of indeterminate age and purpose.

There are several field clearance heaps in the area centred NH 799 996 (the "mounds" noted by the RCAHMS), some certainly associated with later cultivation, the others of indeterminate period. There is no trace of a souterrain.

Visited by OS (N K B) 25 November 1969.

As described - no change

Visited by OS (N K B) 11 June 1981.
