Archaeology Notes

NH74SW 14 7353 4153.

A cist containing a crouched skeleton was found whilst ploughing by Mr Donald Macdonald, 3 Dorran, Nairnside, on Datulich Mains Farm on 10 Feb 1970.

The cist was oriented E-W and was formed by four side slabs and a capstone. It measure internally 39" by 20" by 19" deep. The floor was of sand covered by a layer of rubble on which lay the skeleton with its head to the E. There were no other contents. It was full of earth as the capstone had been pushed to one side, probably by the plough over the years.

The skeleton has been sent to the Anatomy Dept. of Aberdeen University for analysis.
