An iron-smelting site it situated at Daltullich 2 1/2 miles S of Clava on a knoll (24 x 18 ft) c 700 ft above the Nairn river. The Alt Ruadh (Red Burn) flows past the side of it.

The slag is of the older variety, portions of which have been produced from bog iron ore. It is accompanied by quantities of peat charcoal.

At NH 7567 4123, on a low nautral knoll adjacent to Allt Ruidhe Moire, within the estate of Daltullich, are pieces of iron slag indicative of an iron-smelting site, probably that mentioned by Macadam.

Visited by OS (N K B) 15 April 1970.

Note (1979)

Daltullich NH 756412 NH74SE 18

The record of an 'old ironworks', probably a bloomery, at Daltullich before 1887 is supported by the discovery of iron-slag at NH 7567 4123.

Macadam 1888, 234
