Archaeology Notes

NH72SE 4 centred 767 238.

Centred at NH 767 238 is a field system marked by stone clearance heaps, ruinous walls and occasional lynchets. Two cultivation plots were measured at 20.0m by 20.0m and 30.0m by 15.0m.

At NH 7643 2408 outside the NW edge of the system is a probably contemporary circular hut platform set into a NW slope and measuring c. 15.0m in diameter. There are traces of a stone revetment around it with an ill-defined break in the NE probably representing the entrance, to the N of which is a stony mound, probably a clearance heap, lying against the wall.

Hut surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (A A) 16 December 1971.
