Archaeology Notes

NJ31SE 102 3946 1477

This building is situated in rough pasture 190m W of Mains of Glenbuchat farmsteading (NJ31SE 71.01) and 35m N of an abandoned cottage (NJ31SE 147). The building measures 23.5m from NNE to SSW by 5.5m transversely over low grass-grown footings up to 1m in thickness and 0.4m in height. The interior is divided into two compartments, each with an entrance in its ESE side.

The building is not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire, 1869, sheet lx; 1903, sheet lx), and was, therefore, probably abandoned long before 1869.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 11 December 2002.
