Archaeology Notes

NR62SE 30 centred 6500 2112

Falls partly on sheet NR62SW

A heavy anti-aircraft battery is depicted as four semi-circular emplacements with a roofed structure, probably the command bunker, on the current (chart copy) edition of the OS 1:10000 scale map (1982). The site is visible on vertical air photographs (RAF 106G/Scot/UK 157, flown 1946, 3218-19). What may be the accommodation camp lies 250m to E (NR 6523 2100).

Information from RCAHMS (DE, AKK) 23 November 1998

This heavy anti-aircraft battery remained unarmed throughout World War II.

Information by e-mail from Mr John Guy, 4 August 2002
