Insc: 'This is the plan referred to in my Letter to Kincaid MacKenzie Esq of 7 June 1823 Henry Raeburn' 'In my judgement this is a most elegant design, and when it is executed must from its beauty highly improve the access ot the circus from the West, And I cannot suppose that it will be attended with prejudice of any sort to the buildings in the [...] John Clerk' 'Picardy Place 15 January 1823 I entirely concur in the above opinion James Milne Archt' 'Having been requested by Sir Henry Raeburn to state my opinion as to whether the Retaining Wall, as Shown in this Drawing or the Wall as now erected in Circus Place, would have the best appearance in that situation, I have no hesitation in stating that I would greatly prefer the wall as shown in the Drawing. RobReid Architect Edinburgh 14 Jany: 1823' 'I harfully concur in Mr Reid's Opinion in regard to the shown Design Archd Elliot Archt' 'I most decidedly concur in the opinion given by Mr Reid, & should consider the execution of this design as materially tending to improve the general appearance of the place in which it is situated - 131 George street February 18- 1823 Will Burn' 'My opinion with regard to the above elevation entirely coincides with that of Mr Reid Thos Hamilton [...] Arch 41 York Place Feby 19th 1823' 'I concur in opinion with Mr Reid Jas: Gillespie Edr 16th April 1823' 'If this elevation is allowed to be executed Mr Henry Raeburn and Mr Milne will be become bound that no vents or smoke shall be allowed to discharge from any of these buildings and should there be any vents in any of them they shall be carried up inot the high land now building by Mr Hutchnson and no timber or projecting signs shall be put up on the front of said building James Milne'. |
