(NH 6541 4346) "Donald Bane, a Hebridean chief, and leader of a body of islemen, who, in 1187, encountered a party from the Castle of Inverness, headed by Duncan Mackintosh, son of the governor, who as well as his principal opponent, is said to have perished in the conflict".

(The cairn at Torvaine (NH64SE 6) is said to be the burial place of Donald Bane; so, presumably, the alleged battle took place in this area).

New Statistical Account (NSA, A Rose, A Clark, R Macpherson) 1845.

No further information was obtained regarding this alleged battle.

Visited by OS (R L) 20 September 1969.
