Forty-one oil storage tanks and a sunken oil fuel storage tank are depicted at this location on a Luftwaffe aerial photograph (MS/1000/11).

Information from RCAHMS (KM) 21 August 1998.

The sunken storage tank was built during World War II and stands above ground level. The roof was armoured to protect the internally divided oil tanks.

The recently completed large concrete structure and the camouflaged oil tanks are visible on a RAF WW II oblique air photogrpah (No.1 CAM, x980, flown 22 October 1941).

Information from RCAHMS (DE), March 2005
