Archaeology Notes

NH63SE 42 6781 3325

This crescentic low mound is 0.5m high c. 4.5m in diameter, with a hollow on the SW side. It is located by the side of the small burn, which is now a boggy patch, that separates hut NH63SE 27 from the other huts of the group. Presumably this is contemporary with the occupation of the settlement NH63SE 27.

Information from Driscoll 1989 (see archive MS/550, 4)

Field Visit (15 March 1993)

This heather-covered, U-shaped mound sits on the SE edge of an area of boggy ground. It measures 6.7m from NNW to SSE by 6.2m transversely, and stands 0.6m high. The removal of a turf confirmed that it contains burnt stone and charcoal. A hollow on the WSW side presumably indicates the position of a trough.
