Shaft/Mine Details: 1 shaft, 239m (NT 1484 9414). 2 surface mines (NT 1475 9414), No. 1 214m (sunk in 1924), No. 2 98m deep (sunk in 1945). Lindsay 2, a surface mine sunk in 1939, closed in 1947, at which time it employed 83 people. The pit was reconstructed in the 1950s, and included pithead baths, a canteen and medical centre. An underground explosion on 14 December 1957 killed nine men.
Details in 1948: Output 1,000 tons per day, 250,000 tons per annum. 790 employees. Simon Carves washer (1920). Small 'piece-canteen', first-aid. AC electricity, National Coal Board (NCB) -generated. Report dated 16-08-1948.
Other Details: Originally Kelty 4 and 5, but renamed Lindsay after the first chairman of the Fife Coal Company, William Lindsay. Connected to Aitken [NT19SE 33]. Reconstruction of underground facilities under way in 1946.
