Archaeology Notes

NJ51NE 70 5965 1938 to 5965 1913

In a narrow shelter belt immediately S of the Old Keig recumbent stone circle (NJ51NE 2), there are the remains of rig-and-furrow cultivation. The northernmost of the rigs, which form prominent terraces on the slope, measure up to 10m in breadth and are aligned E and W; these give way down the slope to rigs that measure about 6m in breadth and are aligned NW and SE; at the southern end of the shelter belt the alignment of the rigs is slightly different, lying E and W, but they again measure about 6m in breadth.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 25 October 1996.
