In 1881 peat-digging in the 'moss of Strathmore, parish of Farr, Sutherlandshire' revealed a deposit of bog butter under 3ft (0.91m) depth of peat. It was encased in a wickerwork 'creel or basket' which was lined with birch-bark, the fibrous side next to the wickerwork. The mass of butter took the form of a cylinder measuring about 8ins (203mm) in daimeter and 9ins (229mm) in height. The container 'fell to pieces on drying' but the bog butter was analysed by MacAdam and deposited in the Duke of Sutherland's Museum at Dunrobin [Castle].

Location cited as NC 45 49 and attribution to Farr parish discounted. The cited place-name of Casheldhu Dornadilla, Eribol is an apparent reference to Dun Dornaigil (NC44NE 3). [The 1988 edition of the OS 1:10,000 map notes Strath More between NC 45 45 and 46 47].
