Archaeology Notes

NG77SE 4 7838 7239.

At NG 7838 7239 about 125 ft OD on the eastern slope of the hill above Loch Bad a Chrotha there are the heather covered remains of a hut circle and nearby a heather covered earth and stone enclosure bank 0.7m high. The hut circle measures 9.0m inner diameter with walls 1.6m thick by 0.5m high composed of large stones forming the inner and outer faces with small stone infilling.

The entrance which is in the north is 1.3m wide. Within the hut circle abutting the southern periphery is an oval chamber constructed of a single course of large stones 0.4m high and measuring 3.8m north to south by 3.2m east to west, with a 1.0m wide entrance in the north. The chamber appears to be contemporary with the hut circle.

Visited by OS (R D) 15 April 1965.

NG 7837 7240 Hut circle 11m diameter, high peat covered stone walls. Small structure on W of entrance. Bothy, 5m by 2.5m, inside circle.
