Archaeology Notes

NS56NE 97 c. 56 65

In 1875 a logboat was discovered during the construction of Stobcross Quay and in 'a deposit of sand and gravel' at a level about 8' (2.5m) below the high water mark and 3' (0.9m) above low water. It measured about 20' (6.1m) in length and a piece of antler was found in it. The boat subsequently disintegrated and the remains were destroyed by burning.

J Paton 1890; R J C Mowat 1996.
