Archaeology Notes

NO53SW 39 c. 53 32

(Location formerly cited by OS as NO c. 49 32 and site-name as Monifieth). About 1820, when a drain was being cut in the Links to the east of the village of Monifieth, a primitive canoe was discovered embedded in the peat moss, about a mile from the shore.

J Malcolm 1910.

(Location amended to NO c. 59 32). About 1820 a logboat was revealed by the digging of a 'deep drain' across the links to the E of Monifieth. It was 'deeply imbedded' in a layer of buried peat at a point over a mile (1.6 km) from the shoreline, and may have been discovered in the parishes of Barry or Monifieth.

NSA 1845; J Malcolm 1910; R J C Mowat 1996.
