Archaeology Notes

HP60SW 12 c. 61 02.

A kitchen-midden at Sandwick Bay (HP 6202) has produced a playing man of cetacean bone and a bone needle, both of which are in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS). (Possibly associated with HP60SW 9).

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1932

Sandwick Bay has several midden deposits.

Visited by OS (RL) 4 May 1969

The playing man (accession) No.HR 849) is certainly Dark Ages: it could be Viking or earlier.

(Undated) information in NMRS.
