A standing stone, at A' Chill, Canna, 6ft high, 11" broad and 9" thick. It is of freestone, in places highly polished and apparently dressed. Called the 'Stone of Punishment' (S Gordon 1950)

(RCAHMS 1928; S Gordon 1950).

Situated on the top of a rocky knoll and reinforced with concrete around its base. Undoubtedly partly dressed, but its period and purpose is impossible to determine. The stone has a small hole near the top on the S face, and is locally known as the 'Stone of Punishment'.

Field Visit (3 July 1925)

Standing Stone, A' Chill.

On a knoll immediately west of the cross [NG20NE 2] is a standing stone of freestone in places highly polished and apparently dressed. It measures just over 6 feet in height, is 11 inches broad and 9 inches thick.

Field Visit (3 May 1994)

The so-called 'Punishment Stone' is a pillar of red sandstone situated on top of a ridge of outcrop. It measures about 0.35m by 0.2m and stands 2m in maximum height. There is a small hole in its S face 1.95m above ground-level.
