Shown as Synod Hall (United Presbyterian) on the 1st edition (Edinburgh and its environs plan, 1853, sheet 29), which also shows the ground floor seating arrangement. The hall was operating as a cinema from about 1897 until 1915. The site along with the adjacent Philosophical Institution was used for broadcasting from 1924 and later converted to studios for the BBC.
Shown as Queen's Hall on 2nd edition of the 25" map (Edinburghshire, 1890) and the subsequent revision of 1912-15.
