ND35SE 168.01 ND 3843 5459 Pillbox

A radio station is visible at this location on a Luftwaffe aerial photograph taken in 1940.

Information from RCAHMS (KM) 12 August 1996.

This former World War II radio station is situated on the S side of the road to the lighthouse at a point where a new car park has been constructed. At least three brick and concrete buildings survive to roof height with two groups of mast bases.

J Guy 2000; NMRS MS 810/10, Vol.1, 24, Vol.3, 19

The radio station is visible on post-war RAF vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 74, 3002-3, flown 9 May 1946). Within a fenced enclosure nine masts can be seen with the main receiving/transmitting block and a further two huts. At the SW end of the enclosure is a pillbox (ND38SE 168.01).

Information from RCAHMS (DE), November 2001

The radio station is also visible on a RAF WW II vertical air photograph (NLA 1, 388, flown 46 February 1941), which shows that at that date there were only seven masts.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), Janaury 2007
