Archaeology Notes

NH95NE 28 from 9500 5858 to 9999 5897

Formerly LIN 522.

The road from Inverness to Elgin is shown on William Roy's military survey (Roy, Military Survey 1747-54), and on Taylor and Skinners maps of 1776 (Taylor and Skinner 1776). There is difficulty in plotting the course of the road accurately from either map due to the lack of detail that can be related to modern features, but the straight alignments and sharp angles shown on the maps of 1776 enable an approximation to be made.

There are divergences between the courses of the two surveys, some of which is apparent at Dyke.
