Archaeology Notes

NH50NW 6 5362 0683

A walkover survey carried out in 2003 revealed the shooting lodge to be in a ruinous state with notices of dangerous building posted. The building is not marked on either the 1st or 2nd edition OS Maps, and thus the building must date to after 1905. The site is recorded in the Ordnance Survey Name Book as a small wood-built gamekeeper's lodge, at the foot of Sron-a-Lairig. It claimed it was owned by a Captain Fraser, who also owned Polbalnain House. The 2nd edition OS Map of 1902 shows an unroofed building at this location, along with kennels and another building to the N. The lodge is visible on an aerial photograph of 1948, as are other buildings nearby. Three buildings around the lodge were visible on a 1989 aerial photograph.
