Archaeology Notes

NF97NW 2 9044 7930 and 9042 7927

(NF 9042 7927) Human Remains found AD. 1870 (NAT)

OS 6" map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1904)

A small cairn called 'Carnan Beag' is situated where a find of Human Remains is published on the 0S map. At least one rivet was found similar to those at Rudh' a' Charnain Mhoir (NF97NW 1), suggesting to Beveridge that this also could represent a Viking burial of pre-11th century date.

E Beveridge 1911.

There are fragmentary remains of a small cairn, c.5.0m in diameter which agrees with Beveridge's position in relation to the cairn at 9043 7935 (NF97NW 1), but not with the 0S published position where there is no evidence of a cairn.

Visited by OS (JTT), 26 June 1965.
