Field Visit (27 September 1994)

NJ51SE 32 5554 1386

This gable-ended building is set into a SW-facing slope overlooking a burn about 340m SE of Borrowstone cottage. It measures 8.6m in length by 4.4m in breadth within a faced-rubble wall 0.6m thick which still stands up to 1.7m high. There is an entrance in the SW, opening onto a terrace along the front of the building. An extension 6.5m long has been added to the NW end. This building is depicted, roofed but not named, on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet lxii), which also shows a small rectangular enclosure to the SW.
