The Danish motor vessel ALGIER was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U38. The crew were picked up from the lifeboat 15 miles NNW of Foula.

CREW RECOVERED FROM LIFEBOAT THE FOLLOWING DAY, FIVE LIVES WERE LOST, WHEN 15M NNW OF FOULA. THOUGHT TO HAVE TWO DECKS WITH CARGO OF 48 TONS COPPER WIRE, 248 TONS COPPER RODS. (WEALTH FROM THE SEA & DODS).
