The ISLAY or ISLE OF ISLAY ran aground in fog and sank.
Surveying Details
-----------------------------
24 February 1975. The vessel was wrecked at Port Ellen, Islay at 55 37 12N, 006 10 52W. Some of this wreck is on the slope of a ridge, the rest is at the bottom in 15-16.7 metres.
Report taken from a letter by P L Sellars dated 11 February 1975.
17 November 1982. The wreck is reported at 55 37 13N, 006 11 08W lying in two main parts - one around the boiler and the other about 40 metres s of the boiler, where the main part of hull wreckage lies in 6 metres.

Note: the position given above is doubtful, and the vessel is referred to as ISLA III?
12 August 1985. The positions given for the wrecks of the ISLAY I and ISLAY III are 55 37 15N, 006 10 08W - in 13 metres. The sailing vessel J SWAN is also located south of Port Ellen at 55 37 15N, 006 10 56W.
