25 February 1933. The wreck of the motor vessel BURRAY NESS is reported at 58 22 00N, 003 06 30W. The vessel is breaking up.

(Classified as M[otor] V[essel]: no cargo specified, but registration cited as WK 783, and date of loss as 27 January 1933). Burray Ness: this vessel struck [a] rock, beached at Sarclet, 7 miles S of Wick, and [was] wrecked.

Registration: Wick. Built 1897. 34grt. Length: 21m. Beam: 5m.

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary, being derived from the unverified location of loss that is cited by Whittaker. The vessel may have been beached within the area of Sarclet Haven (The Haven) the only sandy area in this stretch of rocky coastline. The location cited by UKHO is annotated PA [Position Approximate], and falls offshore.

Sarclet (Haven) harbour (ND34SE 2) is at ND 3510 4330.
