Ebb Carrs [name: NT 924 671].

ALFRED EARLANDSEN, 954 TON GROSS, STEAMER. 207.6' X 31.2' X 14.1'. Danish. The wreck lies at the SE of Ebb Carrs, at grid ref 924 672, within the St Abbs Head Wildlife and Marine Reserve. It is completely broken up, with boilers remaining.

The vessel was wrecked on Ebb Carrs in thick fog, with the loss of all hands.

Surveying Details

The approximate position given is 55 53 50N, 002 07 30W.

7 December 1982. The wreck is described as completely broken up. The vessel's name is given as either ALFRED EARLSDEN or ALFRED ERLANDSEN. The site lies to the west of wreck of the VIGILANT.

(Classified as steel steamship, with cargo of pit props: date of loss cited as 17 October 1907). This vessel was wrecked on Ebb Carr Rock, St Abbs.

The dispersed remains of this wreck are situated in a gullied rocky environment at depths of between 10 and 15m, and at least partially within the kelp zone. Identifiable elements [indicated on sketch plan] include a sternpost, a windlass, plating and a probable A-frame. Two boilers are apparent, although only one has previously been noted.
