Brevig Walkover Survey

NL 69258 99143 (centred on)

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were undertaken on 16 August 2010 on the site of three wind turbines. Two standing stone monuments (one scheduled) and five possible circular stone settings are located within 1km of the proposed development. Two previously unrecorded sites were identified outside the boundary of the development during the walkover survey.

The proposed development is in an archaeologically sensitive area and the base of the proposed wind turbines is within 25m of a stone setting of likely prehistoric date. Given the density of known prehistoric activity in the surrounding area and our limited knowledge about these types of site, the stone setting at Brèibhig is potentially of national importance. It has therefore been recommended that an alternative location be found for the turbines.
