West Elevation of Market Cross insc. 'Aberdeen Market Cross, built by John Montgomery, mason, Old Ranyne, Aberdeenshire in 1686 in front of Tolbooth near site of two older crosses. Repaired 1821, removed to present site 1837. Arches were enclosed originally. The work cost ?100 which sum was paid out of the Guild Wine Fund. Mens et delt. 1907. R.W.Johnston.'
