Scotland in Outlander

01/03/2021

The global success of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander books and television series has allowed her fans to begin discovering Scotland. Many historic locations and aspects of Scottish culture have been highlighted in her work, as evidenced by the numerous lists of filming locations and sites that inspired the storylines of the books, that now appear online.

In recent years HES has been proud to welcome the thousands of fans and visitors to our properties-in-care that have featured in Outlander, such as Blackness Castle, Doune Castle, Glasgow Cathedral, Aberdour Castle and Linlithgow Palace.

While the travel restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic continue, we invite you to view our gallery of archival images that has been created to help alleviate the current 'Outlander draught.' Take a look and see if you can work out the connection between our images and the Outlander world of 18th century Scotland.

We also hope that you will enjoy searching our Canmore database to view other Scottish images, and learn more about the history, archaeology, and architecture of Scotland.
