In the archive at Historic Environment Scotland we hold over 500 unique photograph albums as well as collections of historic photographs and drawings. They are an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the built heritage and Scottish local and social history. In addition to views of towns, villages and buildings many of them also show holiday snapshots, family photographs and people at work.
To coincide with the #ExploreYourArchives launch 2017 this gallery highlight some of the best photographs and drawings of people showing fashion ranging in date from the 1850s through to the 1950s.
The archive can be consulted in our Search Room and through our online resources. This includes Canmore where new images and information are added every day through ongoing surveys of Scotland's built heritage, as well as through an active digitisation programme of negatives, prints and drawings.
