Unidentified images in the HES Archive

The HES archive includes a wealth of material illustrating Scotland's archaeology, buildings, industrial and maritime heritage. There are currently some 1.2 million catalogue entries in Canmore for historic photographs, drawings, manuscripts and digital archives which illustrate and document Scotland’s historic environment.

In the archive there are photographs and drawings that we have not been able to identify and some of these have been highlighted in this gallery. If you have information about any of the buildings or places that they depict we would be happy to hear from you.

The archive can be consulted in our Search Room and through our online resources. This includes Canmore where new images and information are added every day through ongoing surveys of Scotland's built heritage, as well as through an active digitisation programme of negatives, prints and drawings.
