Blackhouse/chapel

This rectilinear structure measures 9.0 x 4.0 metres and is orientated north to south. The walls are of drystone construction surviving up to 1.3 metres high and 0.8 metres wide. The presence of a manse on the map may suggest that this is the site of an old church backed up against a bedrock ridge thgouh from its form it could just as easily be a pre-crofting blackhouse.

Burgess and Church 1996, 75

Close to the southern end of the dyke (smr 15045), at NB 04784 33954, the remains of a subrectangular drystone building were encountered, measuring 6 x 3m on an east to west alignment and set into the small outcrop and the hillside on its east and north sides, with an internal subdivision 2m from the west end. The drystone walls had a gravel core, a feature of some mediaeval buildings.
