Cladh Halainn is a later prehistoric settlement on the W coast of S Uist. The site consists of a row of conjoined roundhouses, excavated as part of the SEARCH project (DES 2002, 121–2). The excavation revealed that human remains had been interred within each of the excavated dwellings.

A bone fragment was discovered on the track that runs to the N of the excavated area on 27 February 2010. The bone was embedded vertically in eroding midden deposits in the centre of the track, c4m N of the northernmost roundhouse. The bone was dislodged and removed from the site. The bone is a fragment (70 x 100mm) of adult human skull, with a fresh break on its lowest edge, where it was embedded in the midden deposits. No other bone was visible on the surface;

however, further human remains may lie immediately below the surface of the track.
