NS 0155 3786 A watching brief was undertaken during

upgrading work to a lightning protection system on 22 March

2010. Ten relatively minor trenches were excavated around

the castle and a further two small trenches were excavated to

the W (trench 11) and NW (trench 12). No archaeologically

important features or finds were recorded in trenches 1–10

or 12. Two redeposited sherds of late medieval pottery

were recovered from 19th-century landscaping deposits in

trench 11.
