10 October 1884, STORM KING, 18 yrs old, registered Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, wooden steam tug, 10 tons, 4 crew, Master S. L. Duncan, Owner J. Batey, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Departed Montrose for towing, in ballast. 2 lives lost. Wind N5. Stranded near Scordyness (Scurdie Ness) Lighthouse, Forfarshire.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. The prominent rocky headland of Scurdie Ness is also known as Montrose Ness or Montroseness. It situated on the S side of the lengthy approach (from the E) to Montrose Harbour or the Port of Montrose (NO75NW 44.00).

The loss of this vessel may have occurred within the area of map sheet NO75SW.
