Elegant auditorium by Alexander Cullen (1904) rebuilt inside the earlier building of J. McHardy Young (1902) after a fire. The original frontage was of red brick, replaced in 1935 to the more 'moderne' white and black tiles of the fashionable cinemas of the time, complete with vertical sign and more in keeping with its popularity as a quality variety house, particularly for summer tours.

The quality of its interior probably saved it from demolition in the 1970s and an extension was added for the box office, cafe and dressing rooms added in the mid 1990s.

Photographed for the Listed Buildings Recording Survey.

RCAHMS 2008.
