NLO: Lagavulin Bay [name centred NR 407 451].

Bowmore, Isle of Islay, 27th March. 'The ACTIVE of Islay, McDougall, from Coleraine to Tobermory, is lost in Lagavuillin Harbour, about 14 miles south of this place, with all her cargo except about four bolls of meal.'

(Classified as sloop: no cargo specified, but date of loss cited as 27 March 1823). Active: this vessel was lost at Lagavuillin [Lagavulin, Islay] Harbour, 14 miles South of Bowmore. Capt. McDougall.

Registration: Campbeltown. Built 1818. 29 tons burthern.

(Location of loss cited as N55 38.00 W6 8.00).

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Lagavulin has no artificial harbour. The term probably applies to Lagavulin Bay.

The classification cited by Whittaker remains unverified, but is accepted.
