This basin on the N side of the canal, a short distance to the E of Cuilhill Bridge (NS76NW 69), is clearly shown on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1864, sheeet vii), but is no longer visible on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet viiSE).

This may be the basin referred to in the North Lanarkshire Archives (Drumpellier Estate Papers, U8 10/04, 30 September 1850) as incurring certain construction costs.
