The possible existence of a medieval house at Mains of Afforsk has been proposed by Bogdan and Bryce in their (1991) check-list of castles, fortalices and manor-houses. The proposal was based on an unspecified place-name reference, and the 6-figure grid reference is centred on the general area of the modern farmsteading. There is no visible evidence at the steading of any buildings earlier than 19th century in date.
