A small building situated near the summit of Whinhill, which was possibly linked to an experimental radar station reported to be nearby (information via e-mail to RCAHMS from Mr J Bamber November 2008). Constructed of brick and concrete, now unroofed entrance on S elevation.

Large scale vertical air photographs taken in 1945 (106G/UK 1317, frames 7017-7019, flown 27 March 1945), show a mast with a conical roof/top at this location, but not the building noted above. It is possible the building may have once formed part of the base of the mast structure, but it is not possible to tell from examining the air photographs.

It is not nown whether this radar installation is World War II or Postwar.

The tower is similar to those visible on other vertical air phtographs at Sandyford, near Ayr (NS32NE 123 and Alderston, East Lothian (NT47NE 190).

Information provided by Mr Ian Brown (Radar Archive) suggests this may have been a DF station.

Information from RCAHMS (DE), November 2008; Mr J Bamber November 2008.
