This large stone built limekiln heavily overgrown with ivy, is situated immediately S of the administration buildings of the present works (NO30NE 23.01). There are at least three draw holes around the base and a brick-lined bowl is visible on the top. A datestone of 1809, set within a panel, now eroded, is just visible on the E side above a small draw arch. The kiln shows evidence of repair, but it is not known when this occurred. There is little trace of any of the tramways which led up on to the top as much of the area to the S has been cleared for limestone hard-core storage. The top of the kiln, however, does reveal lengths of steel tramway rails, a section which has been revealed on the W side by the erosion of the W side of the kiln. Two other lengths of tramway can be detected on the top of the kiln in deep moss and grass.
