An ancient canoe, still to be seen (1901) in the entrance hall of Kinross House (Fife 26 NW 4) was found at Bowton near Kinross while excavating for the construction of the Devon Valley Railway.

R B Begg 1901

This canoe is not in Kinross Museum and Mrs Purvis Russell Montgomery, Kinross House has no knowledge of it. No further information.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 19 December 1963.

(Location formerly cited as NO 1468 0386; amended to NO c. 112 022). About 1862 a logboat was discovered during the construction of the Devon Valley railway across an area of NE-sloping clayland at an altitude of about 125m OD near the former farmsteads of Bowton. The boat was taken to Kinross House but is now lost.
