NO12SW 301.03 1172 2103, 1183 2102 and 1182 2109

Three small disused quarries are situated on the E flank of Friarton Hill. All three had been abandoned by the end of the 19th century but are collectively annotated as ?Old Quarries? on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1902, sheet xcviii.SW). Those to the NW (NO 1172 2103) and the NE (NO 1183 2102) are depicted on the 1st edition of the map (1866, sheet xcviii) and, since they both appear to have been served by tracks at that time, it may be assumed that they were still in use. The quarry to the SE (NO 1182 2109), is not depicted on the earlier map.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 11 December 1996.
