-----------------------------

9 October 1981. The wreck of a submarine is reported to have been located off Skate Point, Great Cumbrae Island. It lies in about 33.5 metres with all hatch covers closed and rocks over the bow. It may possibly be HMS VANDAL, which was lost by accident on 24 February 1943 (see 55 38 09N, 004 52 52W & 55 43 47N, 005 22 25W).

Report by D Mcentee, 25 September 1981.

Note: This could be the mistaken identification of the wreck of the BEAGLE - see 55 47 18N, 004 56 34W.

12 May 1986. The site was not found during basic sonar search (150 metre range).

Report by HMS GLEANER.
