Tombstone in old Morton Churchyard, monument to Wm Armstrong, who died in 1658, aged 56 years.

In W Scott's Border Exploits, 2nd ed., the stone is incorrectly stated to have been erected in memory of the renowned border reaver known as "Kinmont Willie". Kinmont Willie (Armstrong) was active in the 16th C, earliest mention is in 1569.

NY 3321 7503 - This tombstone consists of a rectangular stone slab supported by four short stone pillars. The upper surface is intricately inscribed and bears the name William Armstrong whom the local farmer says was a direct descendant of "Kinmont Willie" Armstrong.
